CherryPal C100

The power-saving properties of CherryPal's new Linux-based mini-desktop may attract cheers out of social conscience, but its performance may lead to some concerns.

The CherryPal "cloud computer," announced on Monday, which looks more like a thin client, uses only 2 watts of power at maximum usage, 97 percent less than typical desktops, the company claimed.

Google Calendar

Sharing a Google Calendar with another Gmail user can expose the first name and last name that the recipient of the shared calendar supplied to set up a Gmail account.
Finding out the name with which someone registered his or her Google Gmail account is as easy as sharing a Google Calendar.

Security researcher Aviram Jenik on Tuesday published details about this privacy oversight in a blog post. He attributes the issue to the strong linkage between Google's various services.

The 50 megapixel H3DII-50

We haven't heard much from Hasselblad lately, but whenever the high-end cameramaker does make a peep, it's usually pretty impressive -- like the new 50 megapixel H3DII-50 back it just announced. Building on the H3DII-39 back, the 50 features a 36 X 48mm Kodak sensor twice the size of other full-frame DSLR sensors that generates 300MB files at 1FPS.

iMac

Nearly 80% of businesses have Macs in-house, nearly double the percentage that said they had users running Mac OS X two years ago, a research firm said today.
"Then, we were talking about onesies and twosies," said Laura DiDio, a research fellow at Yankee Group Research Inc. who conducted a survey of more than 700 senior IT administrators and C-level executives. "Now the number of actual users is very significant. A number of the businesses said that they had 50 or 100 or even several thousand Macs deployed."

Sega-Hasbro's Ampbot

The robot that's a dancing queen

One day robots will rule us. But until they do, we have to make do with cool little robo slaves like Sega-Hasbro's Ampbot.

Just over two feet tall, he has an iPod cradle on his back for carrying your tunes about. He'll play them through his stereo speakers, with a total power of 12W.

Pretty impressive, for a small guy.

He'll dance along to the songs too, so better start making a robot-themed playlist.

And he'll also chase you around the house, according to the maker. Freaky.

The Meteo Weather Forecast Watch

One of the things I really liked about the now-defunct MSN Direct service was the weather forecasts delivered directly to my over-sized watch. But I guess this Meteo Watch from Oregon Scientific might be an adequate alternative. Instead of downloading weather data from an over-the-air broadcast, the watch measures and analyzes barometric pressure trends in order to provide a somewhat accurate forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours.
