Chimp lands tourism job

Town hall staff in a Poland town have put a chimp on the payroll as a tourism promotions inspector.

The 17-year-old ape, called Bobby, is being paid £70 a month in Radkow to plug a local beauty spot - and is already up for promotion.

Bobby plugs a district called Table Mountains which has a cluster of outcrops known locally as Monkey Rock.

He is taken around the region's capital Wroclaw with a sign on his back advertising the Table Mountains range and his job title of Bobby, Tourism Promotions Inspector, to inspire people to visit.

The Danish capital was awarded top spot for its quality of life and status as a cutting-edge design centre, said the authors of the report, which looked at factors from the ease of buying a good glass of wine at 1am to the quality of architecture and the number of cinema screens.

More people are hurt snowboarding than any other outdoor activity, accounting for a quarter of emergency room visits, according to the first national study to estimate recreational injuries.
The most common problems were broken bones and sprains, accounting for half of all cases. About 7 percent of ER visits were for concussions or other brain injuries.

Visitors to the United States - not including Canadians, at least initially - will need to fill out online forms with personal biographical details at least three days before they arrive, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced yesterday.

The new rules - the latest in a long series since 19 al-Qaeda operatives slipped undetected into the United States and staged the horrific multiple suicide hijackings of Sept. 11, 2001 - are designed to track and intercept terrorists and others on American watch lists.

They will go into effect Jan. 12, 2009.

Four Season Hotel

FIVE Australian hotels have been named amongst the world's best in an annual online travel survey.
On the Beach Holiday Apartments and Courtyard by Marriott in Queensland – along with the Four Seasons, Swissotel and Shangri-La in Sydney – were all named in the exclusive list of the world's top hotels by online travel company Expedia.

More than 80,000 properties worldwide were surveyed by Expedia travellers, who selected their favourite hotels based on value, service and customer ratings.
