Russia had the right Dutch coach. And the better team.

The long shot Russians, led by coach Guus Hiddink, scored two goals in extra time Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the European Championship with a 3-1 upset win over the Netherlands.

It was a sweet victory for Hiddink, who enhanced his reputation of getting lesser known teams far in tournaments. The coach guided South Korea to the 2002 World Cup semifinals, and he took Australia to the second round of the 2006 World Cup.

EA's seminal racing franchise gets yet another new name, and likely a change in focus.

To no one's surprise, EA is set to release the next installment in the Need for Speed franchise later this year in the form of Need for Speed: Undercover. In an interview with Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello said that the title is in development from one of EA Vancouver's two NFS teams. He also hinted that its inspiration comes from movies like The Transporter, though we'll have to wait and see what he means by that.

The first day of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships of Turin 2008 ends with the triumph of the Russian girls in the all-around competition, just a starter of the Olympic competition of Beijing. The Russian gymnasts (Alichuck, Gavrilenko, Gounova e Postina, Zueva) have managed to obtain 35.400. The second position is occupied by the Bielorussia team while the Italian team is happy with the third place.

British rowers

Four men, one 29-foot rowboat — and about 3,200 miles to go. A team of rowers from the United Kingdom set out from the Hudson River on Sunday to try to cross the Atlantic Ocean. They hope to end at the Isles of Scilly, a group of small islands off England's southwestern tip.
The boat has an electronic tracking system, and a Web site dedicated to the effort says the rowers had gone 37 miles as of Sunday night. They hope to break a record of 55 days and 13 hours, set by two Norwegian-Americans in 1896.

The final of the 2007 IIHF World Championship in Vienna, Austria

The world championship takes place May 2 to 18 in Halifax and Quebec City, Canada.
Team Canada enters the 2008 IIHF World Championships on home soil next week with a new coach, a short list of returning players from last year's world championship team, and new uniforms for the first time since 2005.
