Will Smith and Charlize Theron at the opening ceremony

Hollywood stars Will Smith and Charlize Theron are among hundreds of A-list celebrities who appeared at the opening of Moscow’s 30th International Film Festival. The blockbuster 'Hancock' premiered on the opening night.

Thousands of movie industry professionals are expected to attend the event over the next ten days.

Distinguished Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano has also arrived in Moscow.  He received an honourable award at the opening ceremony.

Quentin Tarantino

When Quentin Tarantino announced at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival that he was finally going to make his big war epic Inglorious Bastards, I commented that Tarantino sometimes comes off like a compulsive liar. Because, lets face it, how many projects has this guy promised over the years that have not and probably will never come to fruition (The Vega Brothers, The Psychic Remake, the Kill Bill Prequel/sequel… etc). I think the guy just has a lot of ideas that he enjoys talking about.

Robert de Niro, Laurent Cantet

The official Jury of this 61st Fesival de Cannes, présided over by Sean Penn, revealed this evening the Prize winners during the closing Ceremony.
Édouard Baer hosted Robert de Niro on the stage of the Grand Théâtre Lumière to award the Palme d’or to the best film among the 22 in Competition.

Barry Levinson’s closing film What Just Happened? starring Robert De Niro, Sean Penn and Bruce Willis, was screened at the end of the ceremony.

Commencement meeting

Blindness, the opening film and the first film in competition, was presented to the press today. Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles was present with cast members Julianne Moore, Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover, Alice Braga, Yoshino Kimura, Yusuke Iseya, and actor/screenwriter Don McKellar.

Clooney at “Burn After Reading" shooting

“Burn After Reading,” a dark comedy by Joel and Ethan Coen, above from left, that stars George Clooney, John Malkovich, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton, will open the 65th Venice International Film Festival, The Associated Press reported. Organizers announced on Monday that the film, about an ousted C.I.A. official whose memoir falls into the hands of two gym employees, will have its world premiere on Aug. 27.

Festival de Cannes

Movie icon Clint Eastwood will premiere his latest directorial outing, called Changeling, at the Cannes International Film Festival next month.

The 1920s thriller, about a woman whose son is kidnapped, stars Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich and Amy Ryan.

Other films set for the event include Wim Wenders' The Palermo Shooting and Steven Soderbergh's four-hour biopic of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.

The latest Indiana Jones movie will also be shown out of competition.

The 61st Cannes Film Festival runs from 14-25 May in the south of France.
